Im attempting to iron out in my thoughts some items regarding the evidence markings following looking through the write-up concerning the 1892 Along with the “Oval P” marked receiver, and other Discussion board discussions on this matter. Immediately after 1905, Winchester began stamping barrels, then receivers, with the “WP” Winchester definitive evidence.

I cannot determine precisely if the “Oval P” was 1st used based on my work but I may make this observation. The Oval P evidence stamp is simply observed on barrels that have a Model three barrel address which is situated within the left aspect from the barrel. This placement wasn't common until eventually 1910 with the Product 1892 rifles.
There of course might be rifles with non primary barrels put on by non factory shops but they'd not be marked or recognizable Except the barrel address is noticeably outside of sequence. This is able to counsel the “Oval P” evidence was not launched until finally 1910. It is possible to seem right here for tackle variations:
